Agilent / HP / Keysight 4948A
4948A In Service Transm Impairmt Measuring Set
Description
The Agilent 4948A is an In-Service TIMS.
This unit is a unique measuring set that lets you test data circuits carrying voice grade modem traffic while in service.
Compatible modem types include 2400bps, 4800bps, & 9600bps modems.
It is a unique transmission impairment measuring device that lets you carry voice grade modem traffic while they are still in service allowing for true preventative maintenance and network management information.
The device does this without special modems and is suitable for North American and CITT environments.
Measurement capabilities include level, frequency, S/N, phase, jitter, amplitude jitter, dropouts, gain hits, phase hits, impulse noise, attenuation distortion and delay distortion.

Key Points
Measuring Impairments on a Modem Signal: measures the effects of the same line impairments that are measured by a conventional, intrusive TIMS
Data Logging: result data can be stored in the test set's own internal non-volatile memory
Out-of-Service Testing: transmit and measure on a tone, so it can interwork with tone sources and conventional test sets
Transmit & Receive Connectors: WECO 310 & Bantam
Specifications
Voice-grade data circuit testing - without disturbing traffic
True preventive maintenance
Network management information - without special modems
Suitable for North American and CCITT environments
Test data circuits carrying voice grade modem traffic while they are still in service
A simple connection to the data circuit carrying the modem signal, at a voice frequency access point, is all that is required
To measure the impairments that have been added between signal generation and the measurement point
